Established over 20 years ago with a focus on Open Water Swimming, Eltham TRI Club now caters to athletes of all abilities accross all combinations of Swimming, Cycling and Running


Triathlons and so much more…

A triathlon is a multi-sport race consisting of swimming, cycling and running over various distances ranging from ‘Sprints’ (Swim – 750m/ Ride – 20km/ Run – 5km) through to the ‘Ironman’ (Swim – 3800m/ Ride – 180km/ Run – 42km). But the sport also includes Duathlon (Run/ Bike/ Run) and Aquathon (Run/ Swim/ Run).

Eltham TRI Club members participate in all categories of multi-discipline events but some just want to focus on one of the disciplines and that’s OK too.


1. Swim

Yes, we have to do most of our training in the pool and there’s no getting away from the fact that swimming is about technique, and improving your technique will almost certainly involve ‘Swimming Drills’, not just lap sessions.

But it doesn’t have to end there. What about trying some Open Water Swimming? There are events throughout the year from October through to July and you will find Eltham TRI Club members at many of them. More information at openwaterswim.com.au.


2. Ride

We live in a great part of the country for riding with some fantastic routes out through Diamond Creek and into the Yarra Ranges. Want some hills, try King Lake. Some fast and flat sections, over to Yan Yean and Whittlesea. Or just want to ride through beautiful countryside without too much traffic, our go-to is Strathewan.

And when you are ready to test out all those training miles, Victoria hosts some world class ‘Sportives’. Ride the Otways in the Great Ocean Classic or the Victorian Alps with the Peaks Challenge.


3. Run

We’ve been doing it since we were toddlers and so ‘running’ seems like it should just be simple, so all too often we opt for just ‘trying harder’ rather than learning to run better. Good running ‘form’ matters and tailoring your training for your specific goals with a mix of speed work and endurance sessions will greatly improve your outcomes.

It’s possible to do this on your own but it’s much easier, and way more fun, to do it with friends. Eltham TRI Club members hold scheduled weekly training sessions and compete in a wide range of events. Trail running is increasingly popular amongst the members (have a look at The Trail Running Series) but the Melbourne Marathon is still a regular fixture on many of the racing diaries.

These are our regular club training sessions – but if anything changes it will be posted to the clubs Facebook Group so always check there for the latest details.

Also, reflecting the wide variety of interests and abilities, informal groups of members organise additional sessions. Again, these are usually co-ordinated via the club’s Facebook Group.

Casual Swim Squad, 6am at Eltham Leisure Centre

Tuesday

Coached Track Running Session, 5:30am at Willinder Park, Greensborough

Wednesday

Coached Swim Session, 8pm at Eltham Leisure Centre

Thursday

Social Run, 7pm at Eltham Leisure Centre

sunday

Social Ride, 7am from Eltham Leisure Centre


Membership

Why Us?

Eltham Tri Club is a friendly and family based club that accommodates all fitness levels from Novices to Elite level athletes.

We operate as an ‘incorporated association’ and as such are not for profit with all revenue going to support the operation of the club and its members.

The club is run by it’s members on a volunteer basis. We’re here because we value the companionship of training and racing with like minded athletes who, unlike your other friends, are keen to chat about training schedules, bike setup and race-day prep.

We are affiliated with Triathlon Australia and our membership is managed through their JustGo portal.  

There are various ‘levels’ of membership ranging from ‘Social’ for members who aren’t currently training or racing through to ‘Premium’ for those who want to go all in.  Most members are either Basic or, if racing regularly, Standard.  Click here to visit the Triathlon Australia website for more details.

Many of our members don’t compete regularly, or at all. They just value the camaraderie built of regularly training together – and nothing better to get you out of bed on a cold winters day than knowing your training partners are expecting you.
