Geelong 10th February, 2008 - No less than 12 club members headed off to Geelong. More than 25% of the club membership out doing the Half Ironman! Swim 1.9km, Bike 90km, Run 21km. Our Mixed team entry of Kate Murphy (swim), Cam Simon (bike), Ryan Scannell (run) blitzed the category coming home in a time of 4:19:49, over 12 and half minutes in front of the nearest competition – great performance! Well done! This must have provided some inspiration for Luke Whitmore whose strong run leg saw him over take Ryan about 7km from home. Luke finished in 4:17:46 taking 2nd in his M25-29 age group down an agonising 26 seconds on the top position.

Jan Juc Danger 1000 A small but keen group from the ETOWC competed in the 10th Annual Danger 1000 on Saturday 12th January. The sea conditions were relatively calm but the tide was running against the swimmers on the first leg which made that part of the swim difficult and produced slower times (up to 3 mins) than previous years.
The Eltham Tri and Open Water swimmers who competed did very well. Simone Martonhelyi (20:16 Placed 46th ), Peter Rutledge (19:25 placed 51st) competed in the Supermaster section along with Darren Reynolds. Paul Martonhelyi (22.32 Placed 49th) and Leanne Sheean (17:29 Placed 2nd ) competed in the Veteran section of the race..

Club Vice President Leanne Sheean again covered us in glory with second in her age category. Mike Gowan and Beanbag looked resplendent in their new Eltham Tri togs. Everyone was very glad of the Race Marquee as the day on the beach was blistering hot.

Rip View Classic - 1.4km Open Water Swim |

Point Lonsdale - Saturday December 29th, 2007 – It was a perfect day for a dip in Bass Strait with air temperatures in the mid thirties and bright sunshine one was almost tempted to think it might be possible without a wet suit and the water was warmer then last year’s hypothermia inducing penguin friendly low teens. Crystal water and myriad fish across the reef provided a great spectacle for swimmers in it to be in it. With the tide running heavily in our favour we turned in some stellar times for the 1.4km event, if we could do that in a pool we would be very satisfied indeed! Congratulations to Leanne Sheehan Club Vice President, who did a great job of representing us, taking first place in her category on the podium watched by fellow club associates and participants Paul Martenhelyi, Andrew Evans and Jacque Ross.
